Princeton University Ballet (PUB) is the only student-run dance group at Princeton dedicated to the art of classical and contemporary ballet. The company strives to show the Princeton community how inspiring and innovative ballet can be while maintaining a high level of technical excellence. All of PUB’s pieces are danced exclusively by student members, many of whom additionally choreograph and stage pieces for the company.
Black and white, right and wrong, yes and no. Our life is comprised of preexisting constructs, but it also consists of those which do not exist. We live in the past, the present, and the future; our interactions, experiences and opinions mold our approach to everyday life—together and intermixed.
Regurgitated Coffee by Abigail Kostolansky, Jhor van der Horst, and Sergio L. Cruz
“Regurgitated Coffee” is an exploration of the tragic calm following acceptance of the chaos of everything. An effort to find zen amidst the entropic forces of a decision filled life manifests itself through the interweave between movement and the spoken word. Student choreographers Jhor van der Horst and Abigail Kostolansky explore the liminal state of human acceptance in this work. An honorable mention goes to the collaboration with Ellipses Slam Poetry, their creative support helped make this piece possible.
Abigail Kostolansky is a sophomore tentatively in the Chemistry department with certificates in both Dance and German Language and Culture. She is a company member with as well as the Creative Media chair for Princeton University Ballet. Abigail has also performed in the Princeton Dance Festival and is the Secretary for the Performing Arts Council of Princeton University. In addition to dance, she is a graphic designer for various student groups on campus.
Jhor van der Horst is a junior in the Philosophy Department with certificates in both Dance and Theater. On campus, he has performed in Princeton Dance Festival, performed in Senior Dance Theses, and presented work at Performance Lab. He is assistant choreographer to Raja Feather Kelly on the production of GURLS, presented during Festival of the Arts. He is the Initiatives Director of the Performing Arts Council of Princeton University, and a member of BodyHype Dance Company.
Sergio L. Cruz is a senior in the Woodrow Wilson School with a certificate in German Language and Culture. He performs both with Ellipses Slam Poetry Team and independently. He was chosen for Princeton’s 2017 Slam Team that competed at the College Union Poetry Slam Invitational in Chicago. Along with performing poetry, he contributes to The Stripes magazine.
